The Theoretical Foundations of Health Education: Further Reading [Bibliography]
"All professional practice stems from a choice of objectives, methods, and means from among a set of options. The range of choices is influenced by the theoretical and conceptual models that underlie them—that is, the way we explain the situations we face. In turn, this orientation is the result of a prioritization of personal and professional values." Thus, the approaches of health education professionals are built upon broader models that are rarely explicitly stated. After compiling a list of disciplines contributing to practices and reflection in health education, we sought out texts written by authors from each of these disciplines. Some texts describe how health education professionals use concepts and tools from other disciplines. Other texts observe and analyze health education through theories and concepts specific to a particular discipline. For each reference, the concepts and/or models described are listed.[article excerpt]
