The Epac survey is the French extension of the European EHLASS (European Home and Leisure Accident Surveillance System) database, which was established in the 1980s in several European countries. The survey is based on the comprehensive recording of emergency department visits resulting from everyday accidents at certain hospitals, including data on the injured person (age, sex, residence), their care (date and time of arrival at the emergency department, treatment, hospitalization if applicable), the characteristics of the accident (mechanism, location, activity, type of injury, injured body part), and the products (agents, elements) that caused or were involved in the accident. Finally, a brief description of the accident is recorded in free text. Hospitals participating in this data collection network do so voluntarily. The article presents the results for 1999–2001.
