OECD: Beyond Wealth: The Rise of Gross National Happiness [Interview]

The OECD measures the well-being of populations in its member states. The Nordic countries have a high level of well-being, due to their ability to involve the population in the process of building society, while allowing them a great deal of autonomy and respecting their own diversity. France ranks around the average, with strengths including high life expectancy and a significant amount of time devoted to leisure activities; its main weakness is the level of employment, which is insufficient in both quantity and quality.
