The "Nordic" questionnaire: its value in monitoring work-related upper limb overuse disorders

The Occupational Health Plan aims to reduce the number of reported musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs)—also known as overuse injuries—by 20% by 2009, with the preliminary objective of "improving the monitoring of work-related MSDs" [1]. The “Nordic” questionnaire presented in this article is one of the standardized screening tools for these conditions available to occupational physicians. This simple questionnaire, published in 1987 [2,3], was developed by Kuorinka et al., and its psychometric properties have been studied [4]. More recently, the results of a study on the validity of this type of questionnaire, based on two French studies, were published [5]. The results of this study are presented in this article, supplemented with insights regarding their application in daily practice.
