Key points for interpreting regional estimates of cancer incidence in France for the period 1980–2005

The Francim network has produced national estimates of cancer incidence, followed by estimates of incidence in the various metropolitan areas. The purpose of this technical note is to provide guidance on interpreting the regional results—whether in terms of case numbers or age-standardized rates—by outlining the underlying assumptions and limitations of the method used. The results for "all cancers" illustrate these comments.
