Health and social services professionals in the U.S. Department of Education: Learn more [Bibliography]

The information sources listed in this section are part of a comprehensive approach to health education in schools. To date, there is very little literature available on professions within the National Education System and health education. It consists mainly of articles on teachers, a few recent writings on the profession of school nurse, but very few documents on the role of the school social worker in this field. First, the references provided offer a brief overview of the current landscape, accompanied by articles reflecting on the current roles of teachers, nurses, and social workers within schools regarding health education. Next, guidance and intervention documents for implementing initiatives are described. The training of health education professionals in schools and the regulatory texts outlining their responsibilities are then addressed. A selection of journals and websites concludes this section.[article excerpt]
