Evidence-based interventions for mental health prevention and promotion among young people.
This article aims to provide an overview of the scientific evidence regarding validated interventions for the prevention and promotion of mental health among children and adolescents. The introduction includes a definition of mental health, the prevention of mental disorders, and the promotion of mental health. This review was conducted using a specific methodology for selecting and analyzing the scientific literature and classifying the identified interventions. About twenty interventions were thus identified as having an impact on the mental health of young people. Roughly half of them are aimed at the general population, while the others target vulnerable groups. The majority of interventions target young people aged 5 and older. Half of the validated or promising interventions are multimodal. Among the unimodal interventions, there are notably numerous programs aimed at developing the psychosocial skills of children and young people. Knowledge of these internationally validated interventions should help inform discussions on the practices of professionals in the field in France. [author’s abstract]
