Evidence-based interventions for mental health prevention and promotion among young people.
This article aims to provide an overview of the current scientific knowledge regarding validated interventions for the prevention and promotion of mental health among children and adolescents. The introduction includes definitions of mental health, the prevention of mental disorders, and the promotion of mental health. This review was conducted using a specific methodology for selecting and analyzing the scientific literature and classifying the identified interventions. Approximately twenty interventions were identified as having an impact on the mental health of young people. About half of these are aimed at the general population, while the others target vulnerable groups. The majority of the interventions are aimed at young people aged 5 and older. Half of the validated or promising interventions are multimodal. Among the single-modality interventions are numerous programs designed to develop the psychosocial skills of children and young people. Knowledge of these internationally validated interventions should help inform discussions about the practices of professionals in this field in France. [author’s abstract]
