This article, based on an analysis of Ehlass data, presents the epidemiology of rollerblading accidents that occurred between 1997 and 1999, as recorded in the emergency departments of seven hospitals participating in this study. This study helps to shed light on a field where little research has been conducted, regarding an issue that has become a growing concern: there are currently millions of roller skaters in France, of all skill levels and ages, resulting in tens of thousands of accidents per year requiring treatment in hospital emergency departments. In addition to the increased workload this has generated for emergency departments in recent years, and the associated costs, these accidents are sometimes serious and can result in significant long-term effects.
