“Our world sometimes paints a bleak picture of old age, fueling fears of aging poorly and ending up alone, unloved, and dependent,” protests Marie de Hennezel, a psychologist and psychotherapist. It is society’s perspective that needs to change: instead of marginalizing its elders—who consequently feel useless—it must recognize the value of what they can contribute to the community.
