Heat Wave and Health Alert System. National Update as of August 3, 2018.
Key Points
On Friday, August 3, 67 departments across 9 regions are under an orange alert, and 15 departments are under a yellow alert.
This heat wave has been ongoing for 10 days, though not all regions have been affected equally.
The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region has been affected the longest and has not seen any respite since the heatwave began. This factor must be taken into account, given that duration and intensity are key determinants of morbidity and mortality.
The number of visits to emergency rooms and SOS Médecins consultations for heat-related illnesses (PLC) has stabilized since Wednesday, August 1, for emergency services, and Thursday, August 2, for SOS Médecins.
Extreme heat remains a significant health risk. Preventive measures must be taken by everyone, particularly children, pregnant women, vulnerable individuals, seniors, and drivers.
A heavy flow of vacationers is expected this weekend: according to Bison Futé, Saturday, August 4, is classified as “black” across all of France for departures and “orange” for returns; Sunday is classified as “orange” for both departures and returns. Preventive measures must be implemented in this context.
