Key Points 

In week 22 (May 25–31, 2026), the number of emergency department visits increased compared to the previous week among children under 2 years of age (+11.7%, or +2,218 visits) and remained stable in other age groups. Hospitalizations following emergency department visits also increased among children under 2 years of age (+8.9%, or 262 additional hospitalizations following emergency department visits).
Against the backdrop of exceptionally high temperatures in Week 22, an increase in visits was observed:

  • Across all age groups for hyperthermia/heatstroke (a threefold increase in visits over one week, or +605 visits), dehydration (+60.5%, or +292 visits), insect bites (+88.0%, or +540 visits), isolated fever (+23.5%, or +1,077 visits), and skin conditions (+40.6%, or +445 visits), at levels higher than in previous years,
  • Among those under 15 years of age for malaise (+21.1%, or +184 visits), gastroenteritis (+26.5%, or +772 visits), and vomiting (+26.5%, or +361 visits), at levels higher than in previous years,
  • In all age groups for asthma (+31.1%, or +984 visits), at levels comparable to previous years,
  • Among children under 15 and adults aged 15–74 for conjunctivitis (+46.9%, or +481 visits) and allergies (+38.9%, or +883 visits), at levels comparable to previous years.

An increase in visits for chickenpox was also observed across all age groups (+40.0%, or +199 visits).
