In 2018, 1.6% of daily smokers in the Paca region were registered for Tobacco-Free Month.
In 2017, the average consumption of manufactured cigarettes among daily smokers in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region was 10 per day, higher than the national average (8.4). Conversely, the consumption of hand-rolled cigarettes was lower (3 vs. 4.4 per day).
In 2017, the prevalence of hookah use was 3% in the PACA region vs. 2.3% in metropolitan France.
During the first lockdown of the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic, 27% of smokers surveyed reported that their tobacco consumption had increased since the lockdown (mainland France – CoviPrev study).
In 2015, 6,697 deaths in PACA were attributable to smoking (95% CI [6,503–6,953]): 1,976 among women and 4,721 among men.
In 2015, the proportion of deaths attributable to smoking among women was higher in the PACA region than the national average (7.8% vs. 6.9%), while it was close to the national average among men (19.1% vs. 19.3%).
In 2015, 25% of deaths in Paca were attributed to smoking before the age of 65, compared with 11% after age 65.
