Cholera in Mayotte. Update as of May 29, 2024.

Key Points

  • Between May 23 and May 29, 2024, 21 cases of cholera were reported in Mayotte, bringing the total number of cases recorded in the department since March 18, 2024, to 125 (121 confirmed and 4 probable cases);

  • Of these, 106 were locally acquired and 19 were imported;

  • Four outbreaks, three of which are active in the department: two neighborhoods in Koungou (71 cases), one neighborhood in M’tsangamouji (16 cases), and one in Passamainty (12 cases). A family cluster was detected in Cavani with no spread within the neighborhood;

  • 12 severe cases requiring intensive care and 2 confirmed deaths have been recorded.
