Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of May 23, 2014.

Key Points

  • Gastroenteritis: low activity in the region;

  • Asthma and allergies: no particular trend for these two conditions; case numbers remain within the range typically observed at this time of year;

  • Vector-borne diseases: Since May 1, 2014, the departments of Aude, Gard, Hérault, and Pyrénées-Orientales have been under enhanced surveillance for chikungunya and dengue; currently, six reports of clinically suggestive cases of chikungunya have been received, four of which have been confirmed. All of these cases contracted the disease while traveling in an endemic area; these are referred to as imported cases. To date, no indigenous cases have been reported in our region.
