Public Health Surveillance in Languedoc-Roussillon. Epidemiological Update as of December 30, 2014.

Key Points

  • Bronchiolitis: Emergency department visits were high in weeks 51 and 52 of 2014, and hospitalizations for this condition were frequent (up to 47% in week 52). Currently available data do not allow us to determine whether the epidemic peak has been reached in the Languedoc-Roussillon region.

  • Pneumonia: A sharp increase in emergency department visits was observed in week 2014-52, during which more than 200 emergency department visits with this diagnosis were recorded. The hospitalization rate was nearly 50% of patients seen in the emergency department for this reason.

  • Gastroenteritis: Particularly in private practice, visits for gastroenteritis rose sharply in week 2014-52 (+63% between weeks 51 and 52 in the SOS Médecins associations of the Languedoc-Roussillon region). A trend toward an increase, albeit smaller, is also observed in emergency departments.

  • Flu: Flu activity remains fairly low but has been increasing over the past few weeks. Diagnoses of flu-like syndromes have risen over the past two weeks in consultations/visits at the SOS Médecins associations in Nîmes and Perpignan.
