Epidemiological surveillance in the Lorraine region. Update as of July 16, 2015.

Key Findings

  • Since Week 27, the number of allergy diagnoses recorded by emergency departments has remained high, with 183 weekly diagnoses in Week 28, representing 1.5% of all diagnoses. Following an increase in Week 27, allergy-related activity at the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association has decreased slightly, with 17 weekly diagnoses made in Week 28. This condition accounts for 2% of the association’s activity.

  • In week 28, the weekly number of asthma diagnoses recorded remains low: 49 diagnoses made by emergency departments and 5 by the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association. This condition accounts for approximately 0.5% of the activity at each of these facilities.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk is moderate for grass pollen in the four departments of Lorraine.

  • Following a sharp increase in week 27, the number of heat-related illness diagnoses recorded by Lorraine’s emergency services and the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association is decreasing, with 105 and 21 diagnoses, respectively, in week 28. This activity accounts for less than 1% of the activity of Lorraine’s emergency services and less than 3% of the association’s activity, which remains higher than what was observed during the same period in previous years.

  • Nationally, an excess mortality of approximately 700 deaths was estimated for the week of June 29 to July 5, 2015. The Lorraine region recorded a number of deaths in week 27 that was significantly higher than expected.
