Epidemiological Surveillance in the Lorraine Region. Update as of August 13, 2015.

Key Findings

  • In week 32, the number of allergy diagnoses recorded by emergency departments rose again, with 166 weekly diagnoses, representing 1.6% of all diagnoses. Conversely, activity related to these conditions is down for the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association, with 14 weekly diagnoses in week 32 (vs. 22 in week 31). This condition thus accounts for nearly 2% of the association’s activity.

  • For several weeks now, the weekly number of recorded asthma diagnoses has remained low. This condition accounts for less than 1% of the activity of the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association and less than 0.5% of that of the emergency services in Lorraine.

  • According to the National Aerobiological Surveillance Network (RNSA), the allergy risk from grass pollen is at a low level in three departments of Lorraine: Meurthe-et-Moselle, Meuse, and Moselle. In the Vosges, this risk is very low.

  • The number of heat-related illness diagnoses recorded by Lorraine’s emergency services and the SOS Médecins Meurthe-et-Moselle association remains within the usual range, with 41 and 6 diagnoses, respectively, in week 32. This activity accounts for 0.4% of the activity of Lorraine’s emergency services and 0.8% of the activity of the SOS Médecins association.

  • Following an excess mortality observed during weeks 27 and 28, the figures observed since week 29 are within expected ranges. These figures are currently being consolidated. A comprehensive assessment of mortality linked to the heatwave that swept across France from June 29 to July 8 will be available by the end of summer.
