Surveillance in the Bourgogne and Franche-Comté regions. Update as of January 13, 2022.

Key Points

Flu

  • Still in the pre-epidemic phase. Flu-related activity reported by SOS Médecins is slightly increasing, while activity in emergency departments is decreasing this week.

  • No new severe cases of influenza reported by the intensive care unit sentinel network (a total of 2 cases admitted to intensive care: 1 in week 49 and 1 in week 50)

Bronchiolitis

In the epidemic phase for 13 weeks, peak passed, in the decline phase

  • The decline in activity is confirmed at SOS Médecins (Figure 3) and in emergency departments but remains at a high level

  • The epidemic appears comparable to 2019, whereas in 2020 it was impacted by the circulation of COVID-19

Gastroenteritis

  • Activity at SOS Médecins has been stable for several weeks and remains at levels comparable to previous years

  • The rate of visits for gastroenteritis in emergency departments continues to decline this week and is within the range observed during the 2019-2020 season

COVID-19

A further marked acceleration in the spread of COVID-19 in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté this week.

  • SARS-CoV-2 viral circulation is rising sharply this week. All age groups are affected by this trend, except for those aged 65 and older (stable), with a marked increase in testing and incidence among those under 24 following the return from vacation (decrease in positivity rate, 15%). Against a backdrop of high testing rates (12% of the population in week S01), the positivity rate is very high among those aged 15–44 (around 24% vs. 11% to 18% for other age groups).

  • SARS-CoV-2 is circulating at high levels throughout the region, with incidence rates ranging from 1.6% to 2.5%. Testing and positivity rates are rising very sharply (to be confirmed for 89 and 90). Positivity rates exceed 15% in all departments (ranging from 16% in Haute-Saône to 20% in Saône-et-Loire).
