In nature, students help and cooperate with one another more than they do in the classroom [Interview]

Teaching outside the classroom is not yet a widespread practice in France, although it has recently gained traction due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At the elementary school in Mancenans (Doubs), several teachers hold classes for half a day each week in the nearby forest, even in winter. According to the teachers and parents interviewed, the benefits for the children are numerous: improved well-being at school, self-esteem, independence, and the ability to create and communicate. For their part, the teachers feel that they have rediscovered a sense of purpose in their profession.
