Dengue Surveillance in the Caribbean. Update as of August 10, 2023.

Key Points

  • In Guadeloupe, the spread of the virus is intensifying across the archipelago and remains particularly active in the municipalities of Saint-François and Trois-Rivières.

  • In Martinique, the spread of the dengue virus persists and is intensifying. The affected areas are expanding, impacting not only the southern municipalities—among which Trois-Ilets has been particularly hard-hit for several weeks—but also those in the north, notably Schœlcher, where about ten cases were confirmed last week. The highest number of cases during week 2023-31 was recorded in the municipality of Trois-Ilets.

  • The DENV-2 serotype was identified in the majority of cases investigated in Martinique. It should be noted that a significant proportion of the confirmed dengue cases reported are vacationers staying in the Caribbean.

  • In Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy: the epidemiological situation is calm, but it must be monitored closely. Phase 1 of the PSAGE* remains in effect in these two territories: sporadic cases.

  • Guadeloupe and Martinique are currently classified as being in the epidemic risk phase (Phase 3 of the PSAGE* dengue).
