Dengue Fever in the Caribbean. Update as of August 8, 2024.

Key points

Guadeloupe

  • The outbreak that began in July 2023, linked almost exclusively to the DENV-2 serotype, is now over. The epidemiological situation corresponds to Phase 1 of the PSAGE dengue classification: sporadic cases and isolated clusters with no epidemiological link(s).

  • Vigilance remains essential, particularly due to the identification of a growing proportion of the DENV-3 serotype among confirmed cases.

  • Strengthening individual and collective mosquito control measures to prevent a more intense resurgence of dengue transmission is essential. The rainy season, which leads to an increase in larval breeding sites, the tourist season, which brings together people from various regions, and the potential emergence of new serotypes all justify this heightened vigilance during the school vacation period.

Martinique

  • In Phase 1 of the PSAGE dengue protocol: sporadic cases and isolated outbreaks with no epidemiological link(s).

Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin

  • In Phase 1 of the dengue PSAGE: sporadic cases and isolated outbreaks or outbreaks with no epidemiological link(s).
