Key Points

Smallpox B (mpox)

  • As of May 19, 2026, there have been 73 confirmed cases and 2 probable cases in Île-de-France in 2026.
  • Of the 73 confirmed cases in 2026 as of May 19:
    • 34 cases were detected in April 2026, nearly four times as many as in March 2026.
    • 66 (90.4%) cases are men, and 63 (87.5%) are aged 15 to 44. The median age for men is 31.
    • 8 cases (11.4%) were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported to date.
    • 34 cases (46.6%) reside in Paris, and only 20 (26.6%) report having knowledge of a high-risk contact, which makes contact tracing difficult following notification by clinicians or laboratory technicians.

COVID-19

  • SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater: a general trend toward stabilization in the level of SARS-CoV-2 circulation in wastewater was observed in S21. The intensity of viral circulation remained low.
  • The number of SOS Médecins calls and emergency department visits for suspected COVID-19 remained stable at low levels for several weeks.

Chikungunya, dengue, and Zika

  • From May 1 to 26, 2026 (documented cases): 27 imported cases of dengue, 1 imported case of chikungunya.
