Sudden death of infants under 2 years of age

National mortality statistics do not adequately reflect the current epidemiology of sudden infant death, which has been steadily declining over the past two decades. The lack of systematic postmortem examinations is one reason for this. The French Institute for Public Health Surveillance is launching an epidemiological study on unexpected deaths among children under 2 years of age in several pilot departments, in collaboration with SMUR and SDIS teams called to the scene of the death.
