CPS Worksheet: Understanding Your Values, Psychological Needs, and Personal Goals (C1.3) and Making Constructive Decisions (C1.4)

This sheet focuses on the first general cognitive psychosocial competency (PSC) and provides an overview of two specific cognitive psychosocial competencies: Understanding one’s values, psychological needs, and personal goals (C1.3) and Making constructive decisions (C1.4). Self-awareness involves having a better understanding of one’s goals and values. "The ability to make responsible choices requires being able to identify the goals that are important to oneself and to evaluate them in light of social norms, safety, ethics, and their feasibility." Knowing one’s personal values, psychological needs, and personal goals, and making constructive decisions involves developing three main psychological knowledge and skills: Knowledge 1: Knowing one’s aligned personal goals; Skill 2: Understanding the psychological needs required to choose aligned personal goals; Skill 3: Understanding one’s personal values to choose aligned personal goals. These two specific competencies can be applied during CPS activities. Thus, following a theoretical section, practical examples are presented for adults, youth, and children.
