Mental Health: Definition, Concepts, and Scope of Practice

Mental health is an integral part of overall health. Promoting well-being, providing care, and ensuring the social inclusion of people with mental health disorders are major challenges for our society. Mental health issues were already a major public health concern before the COVID-19 health crisis. The crisis has significantly contributed to their intensification, with effects that are likely to be long-lasting, particularly if prevention and treatment policies are not strengthened. The health crisis has, however, fostered a collective awareness: that we all have mental health, that it is largely determined by environmental factors, and that preserving it is not only our individual responsibility but also a social and political one.
