Public Health France Barometers
The Santé publique France Health Barometer: a survey of health-related behaviors, opinions, and knowledge designed to guide public health prevention and education policies.
Edited by Jacques Arènes, Marie-Pierre Janvrin, and François Baudier
For the first time in France, a major survey on the health of young people, both in and out of school, has been conducted. More than 4,000 adolescents aged 12 to 19, spread across the entire country, were interviewed in their homes after their phone numbers were selected at random. Responses were collected over a two-month period and meticulously analyzed by a multidisciplinary team: doctors, statisticians, demographers, psychologists…
The 1997–98 Youth Health Barometer examines the knowledge, opinions, attitudes, and behaviors of 12- to 19-year-olds regarding major health issues that affect them: nutrition, sports, sexuality, violence, suicide, accidents, and the use of tobacco, alcohol, or cannabis. Particular attention was paid to the young person’s environment (peers and adults), their quality of life, and their subjective perception of health. The research methodology, equivalent to that of the Adult Health Barometer, allows for a comparison of adolescent and young adult behaviors within the same framework.
The diversity of topics and the relevance of the comments from adolescents, parents, and school professionals make this Barometer a reference work on youth health.
