Monkeypox Cases in France. January–April 2024.

Key Points

The number of mpox cases reported each month in France since the beginning of 2024 has decreased significantly compared to the number of cases reported in 2022; however, the virus continues to circulate at low levels. The number of cases had already increased moderately in December 2023 (7 reported cases), and this increase continued, with the monthly number of reported cases ranging between 12 and 14 from January to April 2024.

In terms of geographic distribution, while the Île-de-France region still accounts for the highest number of cases, several regions are reporting a higher number of cases over four months than in 2023 (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Nouvelle-Aquitaine in particular).

The characteristics of cases reported in 2024 are generally similar to those of previous years in terms of age, sex, severity, and lack of knowledge regarding the source of infection.
To date, only clade II monkeypox viruses have been identified, and no deaths have been reported.
