Reported cases of tuberculosis in 1994
The incidence rate of tuberculosis appears to have stabilized in 1994, but given the imperfect quality of mandatory reporting and the significant annual variations observed at the regional and departmental levels, long-term monitoring is essential to properly interpret these fluctuations in incidence. In fact, the completeness of mandatory reporting of tuberculosis cases for all of France is estimated to be between 50% and 70%, likely closer to the upper limit due to the weight of the Île-de-France region (which accounted for nearly 43% of reported cases in 1994) and the high involvement of medical consultants in reporting within that region. However, as the analysis of the D.O. had shown in previous years, several groups are particularly at risk for tuberculosis: - people over the age of 60 (incidence rate = 23.9 per 100,000), and especially those over 75 (36 per 100,000); - young adult males (22.6 per 100,000); - migrants, who are six times more likely to contract tuberculosis than the general French population.
