Key Points

In Week 21 (May 18–24, 2026), the number of emergency department visits remained stable compared to the previous week among children under 2 and adults, and increased among children aged 2–14 (+12.3%, or 6,687 more visits). Hospitalizations following emergency department visits also increased among children aged 2–14 (+7.5%, or 357 additional hospitalizations following emergency department visits).


In line with rising temperatures, there has been an increase in visits for:

  • Hyperthermia/heatstroke across all age groups (+256 visits), Dehydration among those aged 15 and older (+69.2%, or +146 visits) and general malaise among children aged 2–14 (+26.7%, or +126 visits) and among those aged 15 and older (+21.9%, or +2,268 visits).
  • Allergies among those aged 2–14 (+19.2%, or +81 visits) and among those aged 15–74 (+15.0%, or +184 visits), and insect bites across all age groups (+54.3%, or +190 visits).

An increase in visits for trauma was also observed among those aged 2–14 (+16.2%, or +3,361 visits) and among those aged 15–74 (+10.7%, or +5,191 visits), with figures comparable to previous years.

Finally, among 2- to 14-year-olds, visits for nonspecific abdominal pain (+13.7%, or +359 visits), specific abdominal pain (+24%, or +196 visits), and conjunctivitis (+63.8%, or +111 visits) increased compared to the previous week, at levels comparable to those of previous years.
