Key Points
In Week 36 (September 2–8, 2024), activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased for the second consecutive week among children under 15 years of age (+8%, or +1,482 visits). It remained stable among adults aged 15–74 and decreased among people over 75 (-3.3%, or 200 fewer cases).
In this week marked by the start of the school year, there was a marked increase in procedures for asthma attacks among children (+77.5%, or +186 procedures) and, to a lesser extent, among adults aged 15–74 (+18%, or +81 procedures). The share of activity remains comparable to that of previous years for the same week.
Among other respiratory conditions, the increase in cases continues among children under 15 for upper respiratory tract conditions (+13%, or +950 cases) and for bronchitis (+18%, or +97 cases). Procedures for suspected COVID-19 are also on the rise among those aged 2–14 (+85%, or +78 procedures) and those aged 15–74 (+13%, or +157 procedures). In contrast, procedures for whooping cough are decreasing across all age groups (-15%, or -61 procedures).
Outside of respiratory conditions, there was also an increase in:
cases involving the gastrointestinal tract: gastroenteritis (+12%, or +172 cases) and vomiting (+32%, or +56 cases) among those under 15; acute abdominal pain among 2- to 14-year-olds (+22%, or +45 cases) and 15- to 74-year-olds (+11%, or +146 cases);
procedures for anxiety across all age groups (+17%, or +216 procedures).
