Key Points

In Week 35 (August 30–September 5, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children (+12%, or 1,407 procedures), remained stable among those aged 15–74, and decreased among those aged 75 and older. Medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups, as well as their share of total activity, continued to decline for the sixth consecutive week (1,640 procedures vs. 1,729 in Week 34, a decrease of 5%). The share of activity was 2.8% (vs. 3.0% in Week 34). This decline is observed among adults and particularly among those aged 75 and older (-35%, or -29 cases), while a stabilization is observed among children under 15. At the regional level, SOS Médecins medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are stable or declining, except in Normandy (+24%, or +18 procedures), Île-de-France (+17%, or +34 procedures), Grand-Est (+16%, or +23 procedures), and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+8%, or +17 procedures). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 243,148 medical consultations for suspected COVID-19 have been conducted. Among other conditions, there has been an increase in gastrointestinal symptoms (vomiting and abdominal pain), as well as ENT and respiratory conditions (asthma and bronchitis) across all age groups (except among those aged 75 and older). Among children, during this back-to-school period, most indicators are on the rise, particularly among those aged 2–14 for asthma (+35%), vomiting (+50%), gastroenteritis (+25%), and abdominal pain (+17%). Among adults, there has been an increase in cases of anxiety (+12%, the sharpest rise in the top 10) and falls (+9%) among those aged 75 and older.
