Key Points
In Week 35 (August 28–September 3, 2023), activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children under 2 years of age (+8%, or +291 visits) and remained stable or declined in other age groups.
The increase in medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 continues: 3,482 procedures recorded in Week 35 vs. 2,856 in Week 34, representing a 22% increase (+7% in Week 34). This is the third most common diagnosis across all age groups at SOS Médecins clinics. The increase is observed across all age groups: +29% among children and +21% among adults (79 and 544 procedures, respectively).
At the regional level, with the exception of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie regions (stable) and the Centre-Val de Loire region (down), all other regions are seeing an increase (between +16% and +83%).The sharpest increases were observed in Normandy (+83%), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+48%), and Grand-Est (+37%); also noteworthy are the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Brittany, and Île-de-France regions, with increases exceeding +30%.
Among other conditions, the following increases in procedures across all age groups are noteworthy:
asthma attacks: +28%, or +174 cases, including +65 cases among 2- to 14-year-olds (+43%)
gastroenteritis: +15%, or +559 cases, most pronounced among children under 2 years old (+47%, or +99 cases)
as well as bronchitis and abdominal pain (up 13% and 12%, respectively, across all age groups).
Among children, particularly those under 2 years of age, most other indicators—such as the most common conditions—are on the rise (+32%, or +109 cases, for viral syndromes among those under 15 years of age).
