SOS Médecins National Newsletter, September 26, 2017
Summary
In Week 38 (September 18–24, 2017), the third week of the new school year, total activity at SOS Médecins clinics continued to rise among children under 15, though at a more moderate rate than the previous week (+9.2% compared to +50% the previous week). It also increased by 11% among adults.
Among seasonal conditions, there was a decrease in asthma-related visits among children under 15 (-14%, or 103 fewer visits), following a sharp increase over the previous two weeks. However, these visits continued to rise significantly among adults over 15 (+61%, or 287 more visits). Consultations for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age are up 19% (+38 visits). The share of activity for these consultations is slightly higher than in the previous two years. Consultations for bronchitis and upper respiratory tract conditions are on the rise across all age groups (up 46% and 25%, respectively, across all ages). The share of activity for upper respiratory tract conditions is higher than in the previous two years and accounts for 60% of total activity among children and 25% of that recorded among adults, respectively. Finally, there has been an increase in visits for infectious conjunctivitis among children (primarily among children under 2 years of age: +65%, or +45 visits).
Most of the conditions most frequently seen in consultations for children under 2 years of age are on the rise and involve seasonal conditions, as well as visits for viral syndrome (+25.5%). Among those aged 2–14 and 15–74, the main conditions on the rise are seasonal conditions. Among those aged 75 and older, there has been an increase in consultations for pneumonia (+17.5%) and deaths (+22%) certified by SOS Médecins, in addition to the rise in seasonal illnesses.
