Summary

  • In week 36 (September 4–10, 2017), the first week of the new school year, total activity at SOS Médecins clinics continued to rise sharply (+24%) among children under 15 and remained stable among adults.

  • Among seasonal conditions, there was a sharp increase in consultations for asthma (+158%) among children under 15 and for allergies (+26%) among children under 2.

  • Most of the conditions most frequently seen in consultations are on the rise among children, particularly ENT and respiratory conditions (notably bronchitis at +67%, bronchiolitis at +76%) and gastrointestinal conditions (vomiting at +27%, gastroenteritis at +18%, and diarrhea). Also worth noting in the context of the start of the school year is an increase in injuries and allergies among children. These conditions are also rising, albeit more moderately (<10%), among adults aged 15–74. Among those aged 75 and older, there has been an increase in visits for urinary tract infections (+13%) and cardiology (+9%).
