SOS Médecins National Newsletter, October 9, 2017

Summary

  • In week 40 (October 2–8), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable across all age groups.

  • Among seasonal illnesses, we note the continued decline in consultations for upper respiratory tract infections across all age groups and the stabilization of cases of bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age. In addition, there was an increase in consultations for isolated fever across all age groups (up 16% among children and 11% among adults) and for general malaise among adults only (up 15%). There is also an increase in consultations for infectious conjunctivitis and gastroenteritis among children (+9% and +8%, respectively) and among adults aged 15–74 (+11% and +5%, respectively). Finally, among children under 2 years of age and people aged 75 and older, consultations for bronchitis are on the rise (+18%, or +49 cases, and +16%, or +83 cases). For all these diagnoses, the associated activity shares are comparable to previous years.

  • Among children, the most common conditions are primarily seasonal illnesses. Aside from these, among children under 2 years of age—based on a small sample size—there was an increase in consultations for viral syndrome (+22%, or +28 cases) and dermatological issues (+22%, or +17 cases). In other age groups, there were some slight increases, notably for abdominal pain across all age groups (+7% for all ages), vomiting among children aged 2–14 (+8%), urinary tract infections (+10%), and pneumonia (+6%) among people aged 75 and older.
