Key Points
In week 42 (October 16–22, 2023), activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children under 2 years of age (+7%, or +426 visits) and among adults aged 75 and older (+11%, or +558 visits), while remaining stable in other age groups.
Regarding seasonal respiratory indicators, there was an increase in cases of pneumonia across all age groups to levels higher than in previous years (+24%, or +89 cases), bronchitis among children and those aged 75 and older (respectively +11% and +26%, or +180 and +85 cases), asthma attacks among adults and children under 2 years of age (respectively +11% and +10%, or +83 and +10 cases). Among children under 2 years of age, there was also an increase in procedures for bronchiolitis (+13%, or +49 procedures) but at levels lower than in previous years, and for ENT conditions (+5%, or +190 procedures).
Among other indicators, there was an increase in procedures among adults and children under 2 years of age for conjunctivitis (up 18% and 23%, respectively) and for gastroenteritis (up 11% and 8%, respectively), and among adults and children aged 2–14 years for vomiting (up 17% and 6%, respectively). More specifically, and on a moderate scale, among those aged 75 and older, there was an increase in procedures for acute abdominal pain (+48%), for low back pain/sciatica (+19%), and for urinary tract infections (+16%); among children, there was an increase in procedures for scarlet fever (+14%), and for anxiety among those aged 15–44 and those aged 65 and older (7% and 20% increases, respectively).
In the context of the Rugby World Cup, which began on September 8, no unusual variations in the monitored indicators were observed.
