Key Points

In Week 39 (September 25–October 1, 2023), activity at SOS Médecins clinics remained stable across all age groups.

The increase in medical procedures linked to seasonal respiratory indicators continues:

  • all ages: for bronchitis (+24%, or +779 procedures) and ENT conditions (excluding children under 2 years old) (+13%, or +2,948 procedures)

  • in children under 2 years of age: for asthma attacks (+25%, or +23 procedures), while this indicator has stabilized in the 2–14 age group, and bronchiolitis (+8%, or +21 procedures)

  • Among adults:  Ages 15–74:

    • for asthma attacks, still on the rise in this age group (+15%, or +97 cases) and influenza/flu-like illness (+16%, or +267 cases)

    • 75 years and older: for pneumonia (+20%, or +38 cases) and suspected COVID-19 (+19%, or +61 cases). While cases for suspected COVID-19 were the most common diagnosis in this age group in S39, they stabilized among those aged 15–74 and decreased among children.

Finally, there was an increase in cases of scarlet fever (+39%, or +31 cases among 2- to 14-year-olds, and +125%, or 9 vs. 4 cases in S38 among 15- to 74-year-olds) and conjunctivitis (across all age groups but slightly more pronounced among children, +11%, or +47 cases).

In the context of the Rugby World Cup, which began on September 8, no unusual variations in the monitored indicators were observed. However, a slight increase in burns among adults was noted at the national level (88 cases recorded in S39 versus 66 in S38, or +33%).
