SOS Médecins National Newsletter, October 2, 2017
Summary
Due to an interruption in data transmission since Thursday, September 28, 2017, the SOS Grand Paris and SOS Ajaccio associations were not included in this report.
In week 39 (September 25 to October 1), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics declined among children under 15 (-7%) and remained stable among adults, contrary to the upward trend of recent weeks.
Among seasonal conditions, there was a decrease in asthma consultations among children aged 2–14 for the second consecutive week (-22%) as well as among adults (-9%) following two weeks of sharp increases. We also observe a stabilization or even a decline in consultations for upper respiratory tract conditions and bronchitis among children (down 12% and 5%, respectively) and among adults (down 3% and up 9%). In week 39, visits for upper respiratory tract conditions accounted for 57% of total activity among children and 24% among adults. These activity shares are broadly comparable to previous years. Finally, visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age have stabilized after three consecutive weeks of increases, with an activity share slightly higher than in the previous two years.
Among children under 15, most of the most common conditions are seasonal illnesses. However, there is a notable increase in dental problems among children under 15 (+17%) and in visits for viral syndrome among children under 2 (+9%). Among people aged 75 and older, there is also an increase in visits for pneumonia (+31%), abdominal pain (+16%), and heart failure (+21%).
