Summary

In week 41 (October 5–11, 2020), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose slightly among children (+4.5%, or +745 visits) and remained stable among adults. After two weeks of decline across all age groups, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 increased among adults (+12%, or +496 procedures; +11% among those aged 15–74 and +18% among those aged 75 and older) and remained stable among children. In total, 5,295 procedures were recorded in week 41 (vs. 4,777 procedures in week 40, or +518 procedures). The share of total activity across all age groups rose slightly to 8% (vs. 7.4% in week 40) This increase is unevenly distributed across half of the regions (Centre-Val de Loire (+26%), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+25%), Île-de-France (+22%), Grand-Est (+18%), Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+11%), and Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (+9%). The other regions are stable or declining.
Since the start of surveillance, 113,956 procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed. Among other conditions, there has been an increase in procedures for respiratory conditions, with case numbers comparable to those observed in the previous two years. Only procedures for isolated fever increased across all age groups, with activity exceeding that of the previous two years. Additionally, there has been an increase in cases among children for viral syndrome (+14%, or 42 cases) and only among those aged 2–14 for trauma (+14%, or 67 cases), among adults for malaise (+22%, or 63 cases), and only among those aged 75 and older for deaths (+8%, or 26 cases).
