SOS Médecins National Newsletter, November 6, 2023
Key Points
In week 44 (October 30 to November 6, 2023), activity at SOS Médecins clinics continued to rise among children under 2 years of age (+6%, or +446 visits) and remained stable in other age groups.
Regarding seasonal respiratory indicators, the main increase across all age groups concerns medical procedures for influenza/influenza-like illness (+24%), with levels close to those of last year. Also noteworthy is the continued rise in procedures for pneumonia, which is more pronounced among children (+23%, or +102 procedures) than among adults (+12%, or +97 procedures) and at levels higher than in previous years.
Among children under 2 years of age, procedures for bronchiolitis and, to a lesser extent, for asthma attacks continue to rise: +40% (212 more procedures) for bronchiolitis, with levels close to those of 2021–2022 but well below last year’s figures, and +20% (29 more procedures) for asthma. There was also an increase in procedures for diarrhea (+30%, or 30 more procedures).
Among other indicators, there has been an increase in cases among 2- to 14-year-olds for allergies (+21%, or 67 more cases) and viral syndrome (+20%, or 62 more cases). Among those aged 75 and older, most seasonal indicators and major diagnoses are on the rise (respiratory indicators—except for COVID-19, heart disease, urinary tract infections, and deaths).
