Key Points

In Week 46 (November 15–21, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics declined across all age groups except for those aged 2–14, where it increased (+16%, or +2,964).

Procedures for suspected COVID-19 increased for the third consecutive week (+24%). In total, 2,035 cases were recorded in Week 46 (vs. 1,639 in Week 45, an increase of 396 cases). All age groups were affected by this increase, with moderate numbers observed in the extreme age groups (under 2 years and 75 years and older). The sharpest increase is observed among children aged 2–14 (+62%, or +114 cases), but the majority of cases remain among those aged 15–74 (+21%, or +284 cases). At the regional level, these cases are rising in all regions except Occitanie and Corsica. The sharpest increases are observed in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (+73%, or +24 procedures), Martinique (+56%, or +19 procedures), Normandy (+49%, or +44 procedures), and Hauts-de-France (+44%, or +68 procedures). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 257,556 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Seasonal respiratory indicators are mostly declining across all age groups, with the exception of children aged 2–14, for whom there has been an increase in procedures for bronchitis, pneumonia, and ENT conditions (up 38%, 70%, and 27%, respectively, or 391, 90, and 2,272 procedures). Also notable is the increase in procedures for asthma attacks among children under 15 (+39%, or +202 procedures) and for influenza among those aged 2–14 and 15–74 (respectively +48% and +13%, or +50 and +85 procedures), at levels comparable to previous years. Among other indicators, there was an increase in procedures for viral syndrome among 2- to 14-year-olds (+36%, or +118 procedures).
