Key Points
In Week 46 (November 13–19, 2023), the second week after the start of the school year, activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children under 15 (+19%, or 5,546 more visits) and remained stable or declined in other age groups.
The increase in activity linked to the start of the school year applies to most indicators and the most common conditions among children, at levels similar to previous years: viral syndrome in children under 15 and allergies (+22%), conjunctivitis (+27%), scarlet fever (+29%), and isolated fever (+9%) in children aged 2–14.
Regarding seasonal respiratory indicators, there was an increase in procedures for ENT conditions and influenza among children under 15 (respectively +29%, or +4,277 cases, and +24%, or +171 cases) and among those aged 75 and older (respectively +12%, or +39 cases, and +26%, or +17 cases), at levels comparable to previous years. Among those under 15, there was an increase in procedures for bronchitis (+23%, or +417 procedures), asthma (+50%, or +372 procedures), and pneumonia (+36%, or +198 procedures), as well as bronchiolitis among children under 2 (+51%, or +258 procedures). Finally, there was an increase in cases for suspected COVID-19 among those under 15 (+44%, or +95 cases) and those aged 15–74 (+12%, or +214 cases). Among adults, there was an increase in cases for vomiting (+14%, or +46 cases).
Regarding mental health, there was an increase in cases involving depressive states among those aged 45 and older (+13%, or +12 cases).
