Summary

In week 46 (November 13–19, 2017), overall activity at SOS Médecins clinics decreased among adults (-2%) and increased among children (+24%, or +4,927 visits).

With the exception of fainting spells, all seasonal conditions saw a sharp increase among children. Among 2- to 14-year-olds (less markedly among children under 2), there were increases in bronchitis (+83%, or +594 visits; resp. +26% among children under 2), asthma (+64%, or +264 visits; respectively +58%), upper respiratory tract conditions (+47% or +2,755 visits, respectively +12%), and allergies (+8% only among 2- to 14-year-olds). Apart from respiratory conditions, there was an increase in visits for fever alone (+24%, resp. +7%), infectious conjunctivitis (+23%, resp. +7%), and gastroenteritis (+12%, resp. +13%). Among children under two years of age, bronchiolitis continues to rise (+17%, or +76 visits). Among adults, there was an 11% increase in consultations for isolated fever and gastroenteritis (only among those aged 15–74).

Among the most common conditions, excluding seasonal illnesses, children aged 2–14 showed a continued increase in consultations for viral syndrome (+30%), vomiting (+10%), and trauma (+7%). Among those aged 75 and older, there were slight increases (+6%) in consultations for pneumonia and heart problems. There is also a 7% increase in mortality among those aged 75 and older.
