SOS Médecins National Newsletter, November 18, 2024

Key Points

  • In week 46 (November 11–17, 2024), activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose sharply among children under 15 (+28%, or 6,996 visits) and declined slightly among adults (-4%, or 2,720 visits).

  • The increase in cases among children is mainly driven by respiratory conditions: upper respiratory tract infections (+44%, or +5,121 cases), bronchitis (+70%, or +711 cases), asthma attacks (+72%, or +367 cases), pneumonia (+77%, or 198 cases), cough (+62%, or +3,138 visits), bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age (+67%, or +180 visits), and influenza/influenza-like illness in children aged 2–14 years (+59%, or +283 visits). The share of activity for these various indicators remains at levels comparable to (or even lower than, in the case of bronchitis and bronchiolitis) those observed in previous years.

  • Among adults, respiratory indicators remain stable, except for cases of influenza/influenza-like illness among those aged 15–74 (+13%, or +300 cases).

  • Additionally, among children, there was an increase in cases of viral syndrome (22%, or +108 cases), and among 2- to 14-year-olds for isolated fever (+22%, or +77 cases) and infectious conjunctivitis (21%, or +71 cases). To a lesser extent, the increase in visits for digestive disorders continued for the second week among children: gastroenteritis (+9%, or +160 visits) and vomiting (16%, or +34 visits).
