SOS Médecins National Newsletter, May 6, 2024

Key Points

  • In Week 18 (April 29–May 5, 2024), the final week of the Zone B Easter school break, activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children aged 2–14 as well as among adults (+6%, or +4,647 visits), particularly among those aged 75 and older (+10%, or +611 visits).

  • Apart from influenza, which continues to decline, and pneumonia and allergies, which remain stable, nearly all indicators are on the rise, particularly among children aged 2–14 (all indicators except chickenpox) and those aged 75 and older (the same, except for injuries). Among children, the main increases are in trauma (+27%) and skin conditions (+25%); among adults, they are primarily urinary tract infections (+13%); and specifically among those aged 75 and older, low back pain/sciatica (+32%) and bronchitis (+24%).

  • In S18, we also observe more pronounced increases for certain indicators that typically, at least in recent weeks, have had low case numbers: anxiety (+37% and +14% respectively among children and adults), depressive state (+20% in children), suspected COVID-19 (up 26% and 47%, respectively), and scarlet fever (up 28% and 57%, respectively). Procedures for asthma have increased moderately among 2- to 14-year-olds but very sharply among those aged 75 and older (+140%, with 84 procedures recorded in S18 vs. 35 in S17).
