SOS Médecins National Newsletter, May 6, 2013

Over the past week, activity at SOS Médecins clinics has remained stable nationwide across all age groups, with patient numbers comparable to those of the 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 periods for the same timeframe. This stability is observed in all regions. The asthma attack indicator is stable across all age groups and in all regions. It accounts for less than 1% of the associations’ total activity, with case numbers over the past week trending back toward levels similar to those of the 2010–2011 and 2011–2012 seasons. The allergy indicator has stabilized over the past week for all age groups and all regions. A more pronounced decline is noted in the North and Central-East regions as well as in the Southwest. This trend is similar to that observed in 2011 and 2012 for the same period. The gastroenteritis indicator is stable across all age groups, with 2,262 weekly diagnoses representing 7% of coded diagnoses. Note a slight decrease among children under 5 years of age (-17%). This stabilizing trend is observed in all regions, with case numbers comparable to those in 2011 and 2012 for the same period. The measles indicator remains stable at a low level. The death indicator is generally stable over the past week across all regions, with the exception of the Southeast, where an increase is observed. The number of cases is close to that of previous years. The most common conditions (ENT conditions and gastroenteritis) are stable across all age groups. However, among adults, there has been an increase in diagnoses of urinary tract infections (+27%) and tonsillitis (+18%). Among children under 15, there has been an increase in diagnoses of viral syndrome.
