Summary
In week 21 (May 24–30, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased for children (+15%, or +724 visits) and remained stable for adults. After six weeks of decline and stabilization in Week 20, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups decreased by 5%, with 1,761 procedures in Week 21 (vs. 1,847 in Week 20). This decline is more pronounced among those aged 75 and older (-41%, or -24 cases) and close to -4% in other age groups. The share of total activity across all ages is down slightly to 2.6% (vs. 2.9% in Week 20). At the regional level, SOS Médecins procedures for suspected COVID-19 are up in Brittany (+52%, or +34 procedures), Corsica (+31%, or +5 procedures), Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+19%, or +38 procedures), and Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+12%, or +22 procedures), and stable or down in all other regions. Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 220,539 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed. Among other conditions: in children, most indicators are on the rise, particularly respiratory conditions (asthma, ENT conditions, and bronchitis) and gastrointestinal conditions (gastroenteritis and vomiting in children under 2 years of age), as well as infectious conjunctivitis in children under 2 years of age and injuries and allergies in children aged 2–14 years. Among adults, there was an increase in procedures for trauma, as well as an increase in procedures for ENT conditions and low back pain among those aged 15–74 and for heart failure among those aged 75 and older.
