Summary

In Week 17 (April 26–May 2, 2021), as schools reopened in all three regions, total activity at SOS Médecins clinics increased among children aged 2–14 (+8%, or +617 visits). Activity remained stable among children under 2 and adults.

In Week 17, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups declined for the fourth consecutive week. In total, 1,984 procedures were recorded (vs. 2,402 procedures in Week 16; a decrease of 17%), and the share of total activity across all age groups fell to 3.7% (versus 4.5% in Week 16). There was a slight increase in the number of procedures among 2- to 14-year-olds (+5%, or +8 procedures) and a decrease in other age groups. Suspected COVID-19 is the fourth most common diagnosis among 15- to 74-year-olds. At the regional level, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are stable or declining in all regions, except in Occitanie (+30%, or +27 procedures), Corsica (+20%, or +5 procedures), and Grand-Est (+19%, or +40 procedures) Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 213,309 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Among other conditions, the sharp decline observed over the past two weeks continues across all age groups, with the exception of gastroenteritis in children under 15 (+34%, or +285 cases) and those aged 15–74 (+6%, or +81 cases), trauma among those under 15 (+13%, or +63 cases) and abdominal pain among those aged 2–14 (+52%, or +123 cases). There was also an increase in procedures for urinary tract infections among those aged 15–74 (+9%, or +142 procedures) and for heart conditions (+19%, or +43 procedures) and anxiety (+11%, or +20 procedures) among those aged 75 and older.
