Summary
In week 20 (May 17–23, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics declined among children under 2 years of age (-9%, or 489 fewer visits) and adults aged 75 and older (-9%, or 673 fewer visits), while remaining stable in other age groups.
After six weeks of decline, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups remained stable, with 1,846 procedures recorded in Week 20 (vs. 1,850 procedures in Week 19 and 1,914 procedures in Week 18). By age group, these procedures are up among 2- to 14-year-olds (+17%, or 55 procedures), stable among children under 2, and down among adults (-4%, or -63 procedures). Their share of total activity across all age groups remains stable at 2.9%. At the regional level, SOS Médecins calls for suspected COVID-19 are up in 5 regions, ranging from +5% to +36%, with moderate numbers. The largest increases were observed in Hauts-de-France (+15%, or +34 cases) and Occitanie (+36%, or +26 cases). Since monitoring began on March 3, 2020, 219,015 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.
Among other conditions, the main increase was in medical procedures for ENT conditions among those aged 2–14 (+6%, or +299 procedures) and those aged 15–74 (+14%, or +592 procedures).
