SOS Médecins National Newsletter, May 22, 2012

Over the past week, SOS-Médecins activity across all age groups has increased very slightly compared to the previous week, largely due to the Ascension Day weekend, both nationally and across the various regions. The asthma attack indicator (diagnoses) is on the rise in all age groups, except among people aged 75 and older. Case numbers are higher than those observed last year during the same period. The increase in this indicator noted in the Western region the previous week continues. The allergy indicator is also rising slightly, particularly among children, with numbers similar to those recorded during the same period last year. The decline in the gastroenteritis indicator observed over the past several weeks continues (-18% compared to the previous week) across all age groups. This decrease is consistent with the usual seasonal pattern for this condition. The number of deaths certified by the SOS Médecins associations remained stable over the past week, comparable to figures observed for the same period in previous years. The main conditions observed across all age groups are ENT conditions and gastroenteritis. In particular, there was a 25% increase in diagnoses of nasopharyngitis, laryngotracheitis, and bronchitis among children under 15 years of age. Conversely, diagnoses of urinary tract infections were slightly lower among adults (-11%) (Data not shown).
